The blood donation itself takes only about 5 to 8 minutes and the entire process lasts less than 25 to 30 minutes, from registration to refreshment. These few minutes of yours will be time well spent as they could the difference between life and death for someone.
Registration
A Donor Registration form needs to be properly filled with all particulars and correct address for future correspondence. A full medical and health assessment questionnaire is incorporated into the form and should be answered truthfully for the safety of both the donor and recipient.
Medical Screening
A doctor will go through the questionnaire with you in detail. You will need to sign a declaration ot confirm that information given is true. A preliminary medical screening, including checking of blood haemoglobin level, weight, height & B.P. will be carried out to assess your fitness for blood donation.
Blood Donation
A trained medical person will draw the blood using all aseptic and antiseptic measures. All blood collection articles e.g. bags including needles are used only once and destroyed and disposed immediately after use.
Rest & Refreshment
Light refreshments will be served after the donation. You should rest for about 10 to 15 minutes before leaving and read the Post-Donation-Care Leaflet carefully.
