Launch of “NUCLEIC ACID AMPLIFICATION TESTING(NAT) LAB” at Rotary Blood Centre Gurugram

We thank you for your worthy association with us regarding the Blood related requirements for your patients. Your trust in the quality of our Blood components drives us constantly to keep on enhancing the quality of our Products on a regular basis.

There are several technique to detect Transfusion Transmitted Infections in the Blood collected from Voluntary Blood Donors so that infected Blood is not transfused to the patients. Since 2017, we have been using Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay (ECLIA),a quantitative method for measurement of antigen or antibody based on the change in Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) signal before and after immunoreaction, the most advanced serological testing technique for this purpose. In spite of this, there is still a remote chance of not being able to detect the infecting virus due to the intrinsic limitations of this technique.

What is Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAT)?
NAT is a molecular technique for screening of Blood donation to reduce the risk of Transfusion Transmissible Infections in recipients by providing an addition level of safety. It is highly sensitive for viral Nucleic Acids. It is based upon amplification of targeted regions of viral genetic material (DNA for HBV, RNA for HCV and HIV). It can detect very small genetic material by Nucleic Acids Amplification. This method of testing Blood is more sensitive than conventional tests that require the presence of antibodies to trigger a positive test result. It is used to detect low level of viral genetic material present in the body. This happens before the body begins to produce antibodies in response to a virus. Therefore, the disease is detected at a much earlier stage. NAT can detect HIV, HBV, and HCV cases in blood donor samples not detected by serological testing. In addition, NAT can shorten the window period to 10.34 days for HBV, 1.34 days for HCV, and 2.93 days for HIV. It was introduced in late1990. In 2014, 33 countries had adopted NAT for HIV screening and 24 countries for HBV.

Currently, NAT is being done at all the major Blood Centres of India with more than 100 Automated NAT Lab installations and is considered as the Gold Standard for ensuring maximum Safety and highest Quality of Infection Control in Transfusion Medicine. Many States & Union Territories like Odisha, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Jammu& Kashmir have made NAT Testing mandatory for all the State BloodCentres.

In order to provide maximum possible safety and highest infection control shield for thepatients, we have now launched a “NUCLEIC ACID AMPLIFICATION TEST (NAT) LABORATORY” at our Blood Centre. It is the World’s safest Blood technology which enables us to provide Blood with maximum safety and highest infection control quality for our Patients.
WE ARETHE FIRST & THE ONLY STANDALONE BLOOD CENTRE IN DELHI NCR AND NORTH INDIA TO PROVIDE 100% NAT TESTED BLOOD.

The Directorate General of Health Services, Govt. of India and Haryana State Blood Transfusion Council has permitted all the Blood Centres to charge Rupees1200/- for performing Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAT).

Keeping into consideration the necessity of ensuring the maximum possible infection control safety for the patients as well as the overheads involved in NAT testing, we would be compelled to charge Rupees 1000/- extrafor conducting NAT Test on every Blood Unit collected and issued by our Centre.
As a result, the revised Processing Charges for the Blood components issued by us would be asfollows:

S. No Blood Component Current Non-NAT Processing Charges (INR) Processing Charges of NAT Tested Component (INR)
1 Packed Red Blood Cells with Cross Match - (PRBC) 2000/- 3000/-
2 Fresh Frozen Plasma- (FFP) 1000/- 1000/-
3 Platelets Concentrate - (RDPC) 900/- 1000/-
4 Platelet Apheresis with Testing - (SDPC) 11000/- 11000/-
Moreover, we will continue to provide discounts to the following categories of Patients:

We requestfor your considerate support in the form of transfusing NAT Tested Blood Components to yourpatients to assure maximum safety and highest possible infection control measures so that no transfusion transmissible infection is passed on to them through the transfused Blood.

Looking forward towards your continuous gracious patronage to stop the transmission of deadly viral diseases by opting for “NAT and ECLIA Double-Tested Blood Transfusion” for your patients
